  25.   StampCAT is a quick, efficient, easy-to-use program for 
  26.   organizing your stamp collection.
  27.  
  28.   With StampCAT you can register and look up information about 
  29.   such things as: 
  30.  
  31.   - country, catalog number, face value, issue date, design, topic
  32.   - color, preformation, condition, watermark, date acquired
  33.   - postmark (type, city and date)
  34.   - location, quantity, price and market value.
  35.  
  36.   You can add personal comments for every item. Eleven special 
  37.   fields enable you to customize your catalog. You can even store 
  38.   a scanned picture of the stamp.

  42. Distribution

  44. StampCAT is distributed as shareware. This means you are 
  45. welcome to give copies of StampCAT to your friends and 
  46. colleagues. For a list of files that need to be distributed, 
  47. please see VENDINFO.DIZ. Do not, under any circumstances, 
  48. distribute STAMPC.MEM. This file contains the serial number, 
  49. and with this information we can trace the copy back to you. 
  50. When STAMPC.MEM is not present, StampCAT runs as an 
  51. unregistered shareware version.

  55. Installation
  56.  
  57. NOTE!
  58.   If you downloaded this package from the Internet, please 
  59.   read this paragraph very carefully: A file called 
  60.   VBRUN300.DLL needs to be installed on your computer before
  61.   SETUP is run. To save space, this file was not included 
  62.   in this package. Please check your SYSTEM directory 
  63.   (usually C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM) to see if you already have this
  64.   file (this is very likely). If not then download, unzip and 
  65.   copy the file to the SYSTEM directory. It is very important
  66.   that you do this before SETUP is run!

  79. To install StampCAT, follow these steps:

  81. From Diskette
  82.  
  83.   1. Insert diskette number 1 into your diskette drive.
  84.   
  85.   2. If you are running Microsoft Windows 3.1, from the Program 
  86.      Manager File menu choose Run.
  87.      
  88.      If you are running Microsoft Windows 95, from the Start 
  89.      menu choose Run.
  90.  
  91.   3. In the text box, type the path to the installation program, 
  92.      for example A:\SETUP, and choose OK.
  93.  
  94.   4. When requested, specify the directory where you want to 
  95.      install StampCAT. Unless you specify a different directory 
  96.      the application will be installed in C:\STAMPC.

  98.   5. Choose OK to start the installation process.

  100. From Hard Disk
  101.  
  102.   1. Ensure that all StampCAT installation files are in the 
  103.      same directory, for example C:\CATTEMP.
  104.  
  105.   2. If you are running Microsoft Windows 3.1, from the Program 
  106.      Manager File menu choose Run.
  107.  
  108.      If you are running Microsoft Windows 95, from the Start 
  109.      menu choose Run.
  110.  
  111.   3. In the text box, type the name of the drive and directory 
  112.      where the installation files are located, then type \SETUP 
  113.      (for example C:\CATTEMP\SETUP) and choose OK.
  114.  
  115.   4. When requested, specify the directory where you want to 
  116.      install StampCAT. Unless you specify a different directory 
  117.      the application will be installed in C:\STAMPC.
  118.  
  119.   5. Choose OK to start the installation process. 
  120.  
  121. If you have any problems with the installation, you may
  122. install files manually by following this procedure:
  123.  
  124.   1. Start a "DOS-window" (In Program Manager double-click 
  125.      on the MS-DOS icon).
  126.   2. What you type at the DOS prompt depends on the file
  127.      you want to install. For example, if you want to install
  128.      THREED.VBX, follow these steps:
  129.  
  130.      - Insert the correct diskette (in this case diskette
  131.        no. 1) into you diskette drive.
  132.     
  133.      - Type this command (you may need to substitute A for
  134.        the letter of your diskette drive, for example B)
  135.       
  136.          EXPAND A:\THREED.VB_ C:\STAMPC\THREED.VBX  <Enter>
  137.  
  138.        THREED.VBX is unpacked and copied to the program
  139.        directory.
  140.  
  141.      Normally, files with the extension VBX or DLL should be 
  142.      installed in the SYSTEM directory (usually 
  143.      C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM). Do not copy files to this directory 
  144.      yourself. If, however, you do, please make a copy of the 
  145.      original file first. You might overwrite a newer version, 
  146.      and as a result some other application might not work.
